Garden Care Through Autumn and Winter

As the cold starts to creep in, it’s time to take some sound advice from Jonty Kirkby on lawn care through the season to ensure a beautiful, lush garden come the warmer months.

Mowing the lawn in autumn can be different than mowing it in the summer months. As the weather starts to cool down and the days get shorter, the grass will grow at a slower rate, which means you won’t need to mow your lawn as frequently as you did during the summer.

However, it’s still important to keep up with lawn maintenance in the autumn months. Regular mowing can help prevent leaves from building up on your lawn and inhibiting growth. It’s also a good idea to raise your mower blade height to around 2-3 inches, as longer grass can help protect the roots and retain moisture as the weather gets colder.

Additionally, make sure to remove any fallen leaves from the lawn as they can block sunlight and suffocate the grass, leading to dead spots. You can either rake the leaves or use a leaf blower to clear them away.

By taking these steps, you can help ensure that your lawn stays healthy and vibrant throughout the autumn season.
